In her off hours, Heather Meehan, who works in HAC’s finance department, organizes and plays in a team in a women’s hockey league.

This month, her team is hosting the Cape Cod Chowdah Classic, a 20-team USA Hockey-sanctioned tournament is being held to benefit Housing Assistance Corporation’s Angel House.

The tournament is scheduled for June 21 to 23 at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center on Bearses Way in Hyannis. Games are Friday, June 21 from 6:30 to 10 PM; Saturday, June 22 from 9 AM to 11 PM; and Sunday’s finals from 8 to 11:30 AM. The event is free.

The league is for women players age 20 and over.

There is a $900 fee for teams to enter the tournament and $100 of the fee will be donated to Angel House. In addition, a raffle that will be held during the event will also benefit Angel House.

The Angel House shelter in Hyannis works with families recovering from alcohol or other drug abuse. Angel House provides a structured and secure environment where mothers and children can be reunited and recover from the dual traumas of substance abuse and homelessness.
