The Patrick-Murray Administration’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) announced in August the awarding of $5.3 million in federal Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds to combat homelessness in the Commonwealth. The funds will support emergency shelters, rapid rehousing for individuals and homelessness prevention programs for families.

Working in collaboration with the Cape & Islands Regional Network to Address Homelessness, HAC submitted two applications and was awarded $120,000 in Rapid Rehousing funds and $97,610 in Shelter Support funds. The Rapid Rehousing funds will be used for third-party payments (e.g., rental payments for first, last and security) to help individuals move from an emergency shelter into permanent housing. The Shelter Support funds will be used by housing search staff at HAC and the Council of Churches.
