As the holiday season approaches, there is a simple way you can support HAC’s housing programs by shopping online at AmazonSmile. The website (www.smile.amazon.com) operates the same as its parent company, Amazon, does while allowing you to give back to HAC.

Amazon will donate .5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to HAC. All you have to do is log in to AmazonSmile using your Amazon or Amazon Prime account and then designate Housing Assistance Corp. as your charity of choice.

Then comes the fun part: shopping for gifts. By doing so, you will epitomize the spirit of the season – helping those most in need on Cape Cod at a time when they could use it the most.

Several times a year the Dennis-Yarmouth Ecumenical Council for the Prevention of Homelessness (DYECH) offers an easy opportunity to keep families in their homes and off the streets.

They will do so once again tomorrow (October 26), when they invite you, your family and friends to dine at the 99 Restaurant at 14 Berry Avenue in West Yarmouth. From 11 am to 8 pm, the restaurant will be donating 15 percent of your guest check to prevent families on Cape Cod from becoming homeless.

In order to participate, you must present your server with this flier

You can make your impact go even further by paying for your meal with a gift certificate to 99 Restaurant purchased through the Cape Cod Caring Cards program. By doing so, DYECH will earn an additional 13% which will go towards our homelessness prevention efforts.

There is no extra cost to purchase a 99 Restaurant gift certificate through the Caring Cards program which helps ensure families and individuals, who are struggling with their bills, can remain in their homes. To learn more about the program or to purchase a gift certificate contact HAC’s Margaret Benaka at mbenaka@haconcapecod.org or 508-771-5400, ext. 272.

Deadline for Mill Hill Residence is Approaching

Posted by HAC Staff on Thu, Jun 29, 2017 @ 12:35 PM

Mill Hill Photo-1.jpg

HAC is encouraging residents and caretakers to apply for an affordable rental unit at Mill Hill Residence before the Friday, July 14 deadline. There are a total of eight affordable units available in the new senior living facility which is being constructed in West Yarmouth.

The apartments are eligible to those over the age of 62 and who earn 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Barnstable County. They include a mixture of assisted living units as well as memory care units. Those who work, live or have family whose children go to school in Barnstable County will be entered into a local pool; a certain number of units have been set aside for local preference applicants.

HAC’s Cape Community Real Estate department is conducting the housing lottery for the eight Mill Hill affordable units. “The facility is fantastic,” said Gael Kelleher, HAC’s director of real estate. “We took a tour of Mill Hill last week and were just amazed at the beauty of the building itself.”

Kelleher said this represents a unique opportunity for applicants to get the care they need at a first-rate senior living facility at an affordable price.

Located at 164 Route 28, Mill Hill Residence will have a total of 75 units. It is scheduled to open in August.

Click here to download a lottery application. Hard copies can be picked up at Mill Hill Residences; Yarmouth Town Hall at 1146 Route 28 in South Yarmouth; all Yarmouth public libraries; and HAC’s office at 460 West Main Street in Hyannis.  Applications must be returned to HAC by 5 pm on July 14.

Mill Hill Residence is the latest facility to be built on Cape Cod by Maplewood Senior Living. The Connecticut-based company also operates Maplewood at Brewster and Maplewood at Mayflower Place in West Yarmouth.

Local Realtors Give Back to HAC

Edited Gift Baskets.jpg

At the beginning of December, Angela Philbrook (left) and Kimberly Koplow of Cape Cod Title & Escrow delivered several bags of home goods to HAC. The items were collected last month by Philbrook at her 3rd Annual Friendsgiving party in which local realtors, mortgage lenders and friends were encouraged to bring donations to support HAC’s shelter clients.

Among the items collected were bath towels, cutting boards, kitchen cutlery and pans, all donations that will be given to HAC clients as part of its Welcome Home Gift Basket program. The program provides basic household items to shelter clients when they make the transition from shelter into permanent housing.

Those interested in donating to the Welcome Home Gift Basket program can contact Mary Everett-Patriquin at volunteer@haconcapecod.org or at 508-771-5400, ext. 279. HAC is currently in need of new twin and queen bed sheets, bath towels and dishware.

Tax Credits Ideal for Year-End Giving

Posted by HAC Staff on Wed, Dec 28, 2016 @ 04:01 PM

tax credits homepage.jpg

As you prepare your year-end-giving, HAC has a tax credit program that can help you stretch your donation further.

The program is open to new donors and those who double their donation from the previous year. Only donations over the $1,000 threshold are eligible for the tax credits.

In return for your donation, you will receive half of it back in the form of a tax credit. This is on top of the federal tax deduction you are allowed to deduct from your taxes. So for a $1,000 donation, you will receive $500 back in tax credits. For a $5,000 donation, you will receive $2,500 back in tax credits. And for a $10,000 donation, you will receive $5,000 back in tax credits.

Those with little to no tax liability could even receive the balance of their credit back in the form of a check from the state.

Since 2014, HAC has been involved in the tax credit program which encourages charitable giving to organizations that are making a significant and positive impact in their communities.

To secure your tax credits before the end of the year, contact HAC’s Margaret Benaka at either mbenaka@haconcapecod.org or 508-771-5400, ext. 272 by noon on Friday, December 30.

Prevent Homelessness on Cape Cod While Doing Your Holiday Shopping

The Dennis-Yarmouth Ecumenical Council for the Prevention of Homelessness (DYECH), which supports HAC’s Project Prevention, has gift cards available for purchase to over 100 stores, restaurants and movie theaters (from Amazon to Zappos). When you purchase gift cards through this program, merchants give a percentage of the sale to homelessness prevention. For example, if you buy a $25 gift card for the Gap, your gift card is worth the full $25, but the Gap donates 14 percent ($3.50) to Project Prevention.

All of the money raised through this program is given directly to families in need, providing them with emergency funds so they can remain in their homes and off the streets. To purchase gift cards, go to www.shopwithscrip.com. The enrollment code to help DYECH and HAC is 561B698219989.

Cards can be picked up at Yarmouth Appliance Clinic at 61 White’s Path in Yarmouth one week after you place your order. Don’t forget to place your order early!
