Housing With Love Walk joins Facebook

Posted by Bill O'Neill on Mon, Apr 30, 2012 @ 04:08 PM

Walk for HACHAC will once again participate in the Housing With Love Walk, a seven-day walk spanning the length of Cape Cod.  The walk benefits local non-profits, raising money and awareness for Cape Cod housing agencies.  The 2012 walk will begin on Monday, July 9, in Provincetown and end of Sunday, July 15, in Falmouth.  Your help is needed more than ever to meet the housing needs on Cape Cod and the Islands.

Over the last 19 years, the Housing with Love Walk has raised more than $3.6 million to help local agencies provide housing and prevent homelessness on Cape Cod. The 12 agencies participating in this year’s event decided to rename it the Bob Murray Housing with Love Walk in honor of the founder of this important fundraiser.  Bob is a passionate and effective housing advocate whose impact has extended far beyond the Cape.

The members of Housing Assistance Corporation elected new members to its board of directors at the group’s recent annual meeting. Joining the HAC board are Spencer Hallett, Lysetta Hurge-Putnam, Rana Murphy, Paul Niedzwicki and Dr, Nate Rudman. HAC also elected a new slate of officers: chair, Joan Bassett; vice chair, Robert Ciolek, vice chair of real estate, Elizabeth Warren; and clerk, Edgar Mangiafico.

HAC offers a continuum of housing programs, including providing emergency shelter and homelessness-prevention assistance for individuals and families; weatherizing and conducting energy rehabs for low-income and market-rate properties; and developing affordable housing for seniors, families and individuals.

'The art of helping'

Last week seven students from Cornell University spent a week at HAC. They interviewed parents at several of HAC's family shelters and worked on an art project with children who live in shelters. A story about their efforts made the front page of the Cape Cod Times.
