Be a Hands-On Volunteer
at the 9th Annual Big Fix in Harwich
Saturday, September 22, 2018
Hands-On Volunteers are people who do the hands-on work at homes on the day of the Big Fix. Volunteers serve from approximately 8:00 am - 1:00 pm. We can use folks of all skill levels!
- Most tasks, like raking, weeding, pruning hedges, hauling brush, simple paint jobs, and moving items to recycling or storage, don’t require any special skills. Volunteers just need to be able to do tasks of a moderate intensity.
- We need skilled volunteers who have a license/certification in construction, home improvement, or a trade—carpenters, plumbers, electricians, masons, landscapers and arborists—who will do the more specialized projects.
- We can also use folks who aren’t professionals, but have a lot of DIY experience, and could do things like fix a leaky faucet, caulk a bathtub, do a bit of trim carpentry, fix a doorbell, or tackle a big yard project.
- We also need a limited number of volunteers who can help at registration and/or clean-up, or serve as supply runners. These positions are great for those want to help but can’t do a lot of physical labor.
Please note our Big Fix Youth Policy: Due to safety considerations and the use of power tools at many of the homes we work on, volunteers must be 13 or older. Youth or school groups must have one adult for every four students.
NOTE: In order to participate in the Big Fix, we require that you read and agree to the terms of the Big Fix Volunteer Waiver of Liability (click here). You must check the box in the form below that acknowledges that you have read this waiver and agree to all terms.
